ARTIST STATEMENT
As a painter, I have developed the cARTographic method, adhering to the principles of simplification, generalization, and selection, and thus to the use of (most often two-dimensional) "pure" geographic forms (points, lines, triangles, quadrangles, and arcs / circles), both alone and in pattern-forming combination.
When expressed using a palette comprised of the three primary colors foundational both to the additive and to the subtractive schema - and black and white - the resultant artwork exhibits crisp lines, well defined figures, distinctive colors, and ample "space" in which to roam, explore, and play.
Exclusive of my digital photography prints, my life-long preference has been for oil paint (and occasionally acrylic) on large canvasses - reminiscent of the modernist painters - to produce contemporary works that "breathe," and are more human in scale: visually intriguing, yet accessible.
As a photographer, I remain attentive to unusual images, or familiar subjects discovered in unusual circumstances. While I have exhibited individual images in group shows, I have received notoriety for my "s/he who looks down" solo exhibition, described in more detail on a separate page within this web site.
